Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat will be held on the Greensburg town square, Saturday, Oct. 30 from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. It’s a free community event for families. Children are encouraged to come in costume and trick or treat at the trunks of decorated vehicles parked all around the square. There will also be a variety of games, crafts, face painting, a picture booth, free food, live music, and door prizes. This event is sponsored by local businesses and churches.

Tickets to Greensburg/Shelbyville football game on sale

The following Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce members have tickets to the Greensburg Pirates-Shelbyville Golden Bears varsity football game scheduled for Friday, Aug. 20 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Napoleon State Bank, 1221 W. Westridge Parkway, Greensburg;
ETC (Enhanced Telecommunications Corporation) 220 E. Main St., Greensburg;
First Federal Savings and Loan, 460 Greensburg Crossing, Greensburg;
Decatur County Family YMCA, 1301 Kathy’s Way, Greensburg;
The Beverage House, 1102 N.Lincoln St., Greensburg.

These businesses are competing to see who can sell the most tickets. The business selling the most tickets will compete at halftime of the Pirates-Golden Bears game against a Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce business involved in a the same effort.

The winning businesses from each community will be called to the field at Lucas Oil Stadium at halftime to compete in a passing contest. The winner of that contest will receive a Peyton Manning autographed football and of course all “bragging rights” associated with it.

A portion of the ticket sales in Greensburg and Decatur County is returned to the athletic department at GCHS.

Help support the Greensburg Pirates and members of the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, if you have not purchased your tickets. Tickets at these businesses will be on sale until Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010.

The Coffee Stall cuts ribbon

Michael and Donna Layne of the MDL Coffee Stall in downtown Greensburg,held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning as the official opening of their new store. The Coffee Stall is open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday at 211 N. Broadway St. The business shares the same building at Love Your Heart Catering and Carry-Out.

MDL Coffee & Tea open house

Bringing a truly unique coffee experience to Greensburg and Decatur County, Michael and Donna Layne will be hosting a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting at their new business, MDL Coffee & Tea Co. The celebration will take place beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010.

MDL Coffee & Tea Co. is located at 211 N. Broadway St., in downtown Greensburg. The Coffee Stall shares the same building as Love Your Heart Catering & Carry-Out.
The grand opening celebration will include drawings for prizes and opportunities to “cup” the fresh roasted coffees from around the world. “We are excited about this opportunity to showcase the coffees and teas that our store has,” Michael Layne said. “We believe customers will truly enjoy the flavors and the experience that we have brought to this area.”

The celebration will continue on Friday, Jan. 29, as Chef Lemley will be at the storefront demonstrating the many ways to enjoy Gourmet Marshmallows. Chef Lemley is from the Columbus, IN area.

Also, customers will be able to experience National Hot Tea Month and the tea flavor for January is Vanilla Nut Creme.

MDL Coffee & Tea Co. appreciates customers bringing in a non-perishable food item for the Human Services Pantry. In doing so, customers will receive a discount on any food item at Love Your Heart Catering & Carry-Out or on any bulk coffee purchase at the Coffee Stall.

The public is invited to the grand opening celebration. Store hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday.

Good Cheer

Susan Rust, right, supervises the loading. The Cheer Fund has been in existence since 1911 and this year helped over 306 needy families in the area at Christmas time. The goal for the Cheer Fund this year was $40,000 and at last reports, donations were nearing that mark.

Congressman Pence to speak in Greensburg

Congressman Mike Pence will be hosting a town hall meeting at the Greensburg Learning Center on Wednesday, Aug. 5. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and is open to the public.

The Greensburg Learning Center is located at 422 East Central Ave., in Greensburg.

The meeting will be an open forum to discuss issues in the 111th Congress or for people wishing to voice their opinion on issues affecting their families or communities.

Connersville set to land Carbon Motors

Pictured above is the Carbon Motors produced Police Car shown while on tour in the United States. Reports indicate that Carbon Motors has selected Connersville, IN as the location where the new police cars will be produced. The venture is expected to create up to 1,500 new jobs for the area of Fayette County and beyond. Carbon Motors will acquire the building formerly home to Visteon which filed for bankruptcy late last year. This is welcome news to not only Fayette County, but Rush, Wayne, Union, Ripley and even Decatur County as well. The announcement is expected later today and state officials including Governor Mitch Daniels will be in attendance.

Living like Tony

Earl Six of Greensburg poses for a photo with his 2005 Tony Stewart series Chevrolet. Six was one of a couple of hundred vehicles that participated in the Greensburg Car Show in downtown Greensburg. The rain hampered the event, which will be moved to the Decatur County Fairgrounds beginning in 2010. Six, has had the pleasure of having NASCAR driver and Columbus, IN native Tony Stewart sign his dashboard which sits proudly in the vehicle.

Shine it up

David Schutte of Batesville puts a shine on his 1966 Chevelle at the Greensburg Car Show held Friday and Saturday in downtown Greensburg. Rain hampered the event and the number of cars drawn to the show. The event next year will be moved to the Decatur County Fairgrounds.
